萌妹社 Statement on Racist Attacks Against Asian Americans
(March 19, 2021, Washington, D.C.) On behalf of the聽聽(萌妹社), President and CEO Lynn M. Gangone issued the following statement today responding to recent hate crimes toward the Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community:
鈥溍让蒙 believes that to educate is to enlighten. As such, our Association remains committed to educating all learners in PK-12 and higher education institutions to enlighten and empower the next generation of citizens. As an educational association of colleges and universities that values the diversity of students, their families, and educators, 萌妹社 condemns the escalation of violence and harassment toward our AAPI colleagues, students, and friends.
There is no doubt that the increase in violence toward our AAPI communities, including the over 3,800 hate-based acts to date, corresponds to the ways in which both the past administration and many current leaders use xenophobic language to describe COVID-19. 萌妹社 calls upon its partners, allies, and educators of all rank and file to join us in condemning this violence against our AAPI communities.鈥
